In the past five years, 30 state plus the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana. How should we regulate this popular substance—as a recreational drug? Medicinal cure-all? Herbal supplement? This presentation considers the complex legal frameworks surrounding cannabis, and the problems they raise.

Following the talk, questions about applying to and/or attending law school will be answered.

Free and open to all students. Food will be provided.

Applications Open for Fall 2019 Inside-Out Prison Exchange Course

The UO School of Law Conflict & Dispute Resolution Program is now accepting applications for Fall Term 2019 enrollment in its undergraduate Inside-Out Prison Exchange Course!

The course aims to facilitate critical and engaging discussion about the principles and practices of Restorative Justice. Through course dialogues and activities students will explore the needs and roles of victims, offenders, communities, and justice systems, as well as outline the principles and values of Restorative Justice.

Using the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program model, this course will include both “inside” (students inside OSP) and “outside” students (students at UO). This course will take place at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem.

Summer Congressional Internship with Congressional Black Caucus Foundation

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) is currently recruiting interns for the 2019 summer Congressional Internship. From May to July, CBCF interns work in Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) member offices and learn first-hand how to develop legislative and public policy initiatives. Qualifications:

U.S. citizen or permit to work in the U.S. through May 2020
Active full-time enrollment in college or recent graduation from a college within twelve (12) months of internship application
Completion of at least 30 credits towards an undergraduate degree
Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Demonstrated interest in public service, governance, and the policy-making process

Seniors: $2500 CLEO EDGE Summer Institute Scholarship

CLEO, the Council on Legal Education Opportunity, Inc., is pleased to announce that they will award a $2500 CLEO EDGE Pre-Law Scholarship to 24 participants of the 2019 Pre-Law Summer Institute (PLSI).

For those college seniors interested in attending law school in fall 2019, CLEO’s Pre-Law Summer Institute prepares students for the rigors of the first year of law school. The application closes March 30. Scholarship winners will be announced in mid-April. Successful applicants will have a minimum 2.7 GPA and have a demonstrated financial need.

Pride Foundation Scholarships Deadline is January 11th!

The Pride Foundation offers 60 scholarships to LGBTQ and allied students associated with the northwest. Some of these are particularly relevant to students interested in law. Below are examples of two relevant scholarships. Students can submit a single application to be considered for all 60 scholarships! See a list of all scholarship funds and apply here!

Davis Wright Tremaine Pride Foundation Scholarship for Oregon Residents pursuing a juris doctorate at an American Bar Association Accredited law school.

To be eligible, a candidate must:

Identify as a member of the LGBTQ community
Be a resident of Oregon (must have lived in Oregon for more than one year)
Be an incoming first year student pursuing a juris doctorate at an ABA accredited law school
Demonstrate the intent to practice law in Oregon after graduating law school

Political Leadership Scholarship for students studying law, political science, public policy, or public administration with the goal of improving rights for LGBTQ people. Preference is given to LGBTQ students of color and low-income or first-generation college students.
